November 2015

It was a great show this past weekend at the Canandaigua Christkindl Market.  We visited with all our friends, and vendors, and new friends as well.  It was a very fun weekend.  We have 2 racks of sweaters and coats, but they are going fast!  I was so happy to have one of our XL coats sold to a fabulous lady (see pic)!  She really rocked that coat!  I was so happy to see her happiness!!  We also sold an XL skirt to a women who wore it right out of the tent!  She looked fabulous, and she knew it!  They both blew up those pieces!

I will be focusing on skirts, leg warmers, vests, ponchos, and arm warmers for next year!!  I am excited to get sewing again.  We will be at the Rochester Museum and Science Center next weekend, November 20, 21, 22.  www.rmsc.org  Our new spot is on the FIRST FLOOR, by the elevators!!  Come see us!

Kreationality will also be at Cobblestone Creek on December 3rd, 5:30 -9 and also at the Holiday Shopping Fair at the University of Rochester Hirst Lounge, Wilson Commons on Friday, December 4th, 10-4pm.

In the meantime, I will post the newest pieces on www.facebook.com/kreationality and also have a link to my Etsy page for purchase.  Thank you!!  :D

Hope to see you soon!

See you in September

Roycroft 2014The Roycroft Summer Artisan show last weekend was a very nice event.  My husband Jack helped me at this show.  He grew up in the area, so we have always enjoyed visiting East Aurora, and were excited to participate in the show.  We have a good friend that works at the Roycroft Inn, and we always enjoy staying there.   The Roycroft Inn is the most amazing place with beautiful grounds around the whole hotel, and incredibly delicious meals.  They are so accommodating of any request we have ever had.  We had an awesome snack at the bar before setting up the tent on Friday.  It was too late for lunch, and too early for dinner, but they had a “lite” menu available.   It was the best soup I have ever had, and I do remember enjoying it at other times we have stayed at the Roycroft.  The bartender said it has been on the menu since 1995.  That says something, for sure!  Jack had a substantial meaty sandwich, and I enjoyed some shrimp cocktail with my soup.  Perfect!!  Good beer selection for Jack, and the bartender made a great cosmo for me.
We set up for the show at the elementary school, which was super easy access, but it was also super HOT.  We got the tent set up, but ended up leaving the huge bags of sweaters inside the tent to hang up on Saturday morning.  That turned out to be a great idea because it was much cooler at 9am on Saturday.  The temperature did climb up to about 88 degrees on both Saturday and Sunday…… which was a new experience for me.  I have only done one other show in the summer (last year), which did not end well with a huge summer rain storm.   I decided at that time that summer shows are not for me, but I was told that in order to be considered for the WINTER Roycroft artisan show, I would have to participate in the Summer show….. so Jack and I made a little vacation of it.  We enjoyed several delicious dinners out, had drinks, and hung out at the hotel, which is just a great place to be.   While at the show on both days we had so many people comment on the hot weather, and how it must be hard to try to sell sweaters….. but we had just as many, actually more, people that stopped in to admire, and actually try on the sweaters and arm warmers.  We did much better than I thought we would do in that heat, so I was happy with that aspect of the show.
In the end, though, if I’m not comfortable (just too HOT), I’m not having fun…… so since this sweater gig is something I do because I enjoy it, no more summer shows!
So I hope to visit with you in the Fall……… the first show is Clothesline!!  Kreationality will be in Booth 6 at the Prince Street entrance of the show.

2014 Shows

Hey everyone!
It’s been a long, cold winter!   And I thought of posting LOTS of times, but never sat down to do it.  But I am finally sitting here to write something today!
I have been sooooooo excited as I receive ACCEPTANCE letters to almost all the shows I applied to….. yay!!!!!!  I think there are two more that I am waiting to hear about.
Go to  Festivals to see where we will be this year!  It’s a pretty FULL schedule………yeah!
I am doing two summer shows, and I know they will be FUN!  1374782_408804595912134_749745794_n
My husband, Jack,  and I are happy to be doing the Roycroft RALA Summer Festival in June.  We love East Aurora, NY, and enjoy spending time at the Roycroft Inn, and going to the shops on Main Street, especially Vidlers!  Jack is usually behind the scenes helping me in a HUGE way with cutting, and fixing stuff, helping with the tent, and creating all my booth ideas, but he will be my help in the tent at a few of the out-of-town shows.  :D  (he was awesome help in Canandaigua last year, see pic!!)
The next show in August will be out-of-town as well.  Jack and I will be participating in the Crafts Alliance Fine Crafts Show in Chautauqua, NY.  This is a whole new place for both of us to visit.  It looks like a fun place to vacation, so we’ll be checking it out for a future fun vacation spot!
The rest of the shows start in September, beginning with the CLOTHESLINE Festival!  That was so fun last year!  I can’t wait to talk with all the friends that come by!
And, you can see the rest of the show schedule here, and please make sure to come and visit meeeeeee!!
In the meantime, “LIKE” me on Facebook
I appreciate your emails, notes, comments, and LOVE!
Thank you!!!!  :D

Finding the Sweaters…….. 2014

1604412_446474068811853_243496152_nThis picture was taken on my last big sweater shopping trip!  What a HUGE load that was.  I found so many nice sweaters.  Sometimes it just works out that way!  YAY!  The biggest talk I am hearing at the Goodwill and Salvation Army stores is how the prices have increased over the last year.  I noticed this in Rochester last year, and now I see the same thing happening in the Southern Tier.  I actually found three cashmere sweaters on this last trip marked at $14.99 and $15.99….. even if it was half price day, I wouldn’t pay that.  I have found tons of cashmere sweaters in the past, and never paid that much.  Not sure what is happening, but it looks like “goodwill” stores are becoming retail stores.  But it’s obvious from my cart-load of sweaters that I don’t have a problem finding what I need at the right price!  I am flexible, and open to new ideas (and there’s always new ideas) if it ever becomes a problem finding sweaters……. I’m not worried about it.

Right now, I am busy creating arm warmers, and a few custom orders.  The demand for arm warmers at the festivals is unbelievable, and amazing!  It’s so fun to interact with people as they try to make a decision on which pair they want out of the hundreds to choose from.  I will begin creating coats, and sweaters in the next month or so.  I have a HUGE stockpile of sweater inventory ready to be designed, and re-created!  I do have several items available now that you can check out at my Etsy store at www.esty.com/store/kreationality

These last two months I have been busy applying to festivals.  There were so many new events I was told about, and invited to apply to, and I had to check them all out to see if it was a good fit for Kreationality.  I finally narrowed it down, and have applied to six festivals. so far.  I applied to two new ones in the Summer, and both are out of town.  Chautaqua, NY and East Aurora, NY.  To see the list of the juried events I have applied to please visit www.kreationality.com/festivals-and-stores

As mentioned, my Etsy store is now active again.  Mostly, I like to focus my attention on the festivals, but I wanted to have a place for people to purchase my pieces, or just get a good look at them.  I am excited that I have had two out of state sales already.  Cool!  :D    I post LOTS of photos of recent pieces on the Kreationality Facebook page www.facebook.com/kreationality

I am excited to announce Skaneateles Artisans now carries several Kreationality pieces.  Please check out their website.  It is a beautiful gallery, and I am excited to be one of the artisans featured there.

Clothesline Festival

Hey everyone!!
I’m looking forward to the festival season to begin September 7 & 8 at the Clothesline Festival.  Kreationality will be at clotheslinebooth 243 in back of the Museum.  This is a fun  time of year for Kreationality.  All the hours of work from the last 6 months will be on display, and I am so excited!!   To see a list of festivals that Kreationality will be at, check www.kreationality.com/festivals-and-stores.
During the “down” time of January through August, I have been playing with lots of ideas, and creating new pieces.   I ended up going  back to the coats, sweaters, and arm warmers.  I have several totes to bring to the festivals, and some pillows, hats, and scarves too, but for the most part, I like working on the coats, sweaters, and arm warmers.  I enjoy new, and different ideas, and will always be exploring what else I can create from these upcycled sweaters.  I am bringing back my little Christmas trees that started this whole thing.  They are so cute!  I will have those with me at the festivals that are closer to Christmas.
Thank you for all your support, and love!!  I have been selling pieces on the website, so check there if you are interested in one of these unique sweaters at www.kreationality.com/shop
Peace,
Karen

Custom Orders

Custom Order KreationalityI have always tried to stay away from custom orders.  Mostly because I can only work with the sweaters I find, and it makes it more work to custom size from the sweaters I have on hand.  But as festival time is getting closer I have been thinking of all the requests I get from people for “custom” pieces.  The questions I get are, “can you make me something like this, but shorter sleeves, and with a hood, or smaller, etc.”…. stuff like that.  Well, THAT is a custom order.  I work with what I have, and so a custom order takes at least twice as much time to find sweaters, and then create the piece.  So, I decided to create a custom order form with pricing, so you can make that decision.  Please check it out at www.kreationality.com and find the link on the right side which will take you to the custom order sheet which includes  pricing.
I would love for you to have the piece of your dreams, and we can work together on it.  All of this is a work in progress, and I just go with the flow!  Let’s see what happens.
Reminder that the first event Kreationality will be at is the Clothesline Festival on September 7 & 8.  I will be at booth 243 in Section A.  Come see me!!
Also, the monthly arm warmer drawing starts September 1st, so enter at www.kreationality.com once, and you will be entered for each months drawing.
Thank you all for your support!!  I am looking forward to the Fall and all the fun events ,and festivals.  Find the list of festivals I will be at www.kreationality.com/festivals-and-stores.

Summer Festivals

fairport canal daysI signed up, and participated in the Fairport Canal Days Festival as kind of a experiment to see how my sweaters would go over in a SUMMER festival.  I have only participated in Fall/Winter festivals, and at that time of year the festivals are fast, and furious!!  I love the energy, and the streams of people looking through the arm warmers, and asking questions on how I create the sweaters, and coats.  That is such a fun time for me!  Well, Saturday at Canal Days it was close to 90 degrees all day, and I learned several things!  First, people still LOVE what I do.  They stop because something catches their eye that is hanging up, and they come over to look at, and admire everything…… BUT, no one is thinking of buying a sweater!  Well, except for two women (thank you)…..and there were actually three people who TRIED ON a sweater.  WOW.   I totally appreciate those brave souls who liked a piece so much that they tried it on…. THANK YOU!  I appreciate the interest, and I enjoy talking about what I do.  I am not discouraged from the slower stream of people in and out of our booth, but I do recognize my time might be better spent creating pieces.  So,  I have canceled out of Corn Hill, and Hammondsport Arts and Crafts festivals.  Hopefully, some lucky person will be taken off the wait list for Corn Hill to take my place.  I have a very active Fall/Winter schedule that I will be better prepared for now that I have the whole summer off.  YAY!  There will be lots of new pieces to choose from!
Okay, so the rest of the story about Canal Days….ugh!  It was a very nice venue, and the volunteers were amazing, and so helpful.  My helper was asked 3 different times if she would like to take a break when she was alone in the booth.  That is definitely a perk at an event, and very much appreciated.  Unfortunately, we had a very bad storm come through.  We were actually driving home on the expressway when it hit, and had to pull over, as well as many other vehicles.  There were very high winds, sheets of rain, and lightning.  I was petrified, we couldn’t see an inch in front of us.  Of course our thoughts were of the festival, and all those tents…… wondering if the storm was headed to Fairport.  So, Sunday, I got up early enough to get down there before they closed the roads, so I could get down the road with my car to pack up everything if necessary.  As I drove down Main Street I saw some pretty mangled tents….. some didn’t resemble a tent frame at all.  Some tents were just fine.  When I got to my tent it was askew from the square footprint it was supposed to be on.  The two tents on either side were fine.  They were heavy duty, and I think they kinda held my tent there.  I was able to re-position it in the proper place, but everything inside was wet.  The tent was apparently not waterproof, and the water repellent we sprayed on it didn’t do anything.  So, I packed everything up, and called it a day.  I appreciate the help taking down the tent from my neighbor vendors, and also for all the advice, and assistance when setting up as well (we were missing a nut from one of our bolts…… neighbor had a zip tie! yay)  I always learn something at every event.  I received a couple website suggestions as to where to purchase the “good” tents, but I actually saw another vendor with a bright blue TARP over his whole tent, and he had the tarp attached to his tent with those orange handled spring clamps ….. so instead of spending $1000 on another tent, I might do that.  Another idea my husband suggested….. “check the weather, if it says severe thunderstorms, don’t go”.  Yep, I am going to remember that one!! haha!
A big thank you to my new helper Sharyn Henry, a Dansville gal who was a very calm presence during the storm driving home, and a pleasure to hang out with all day.  I told her to be ready for the Fall/Winter festivals, because we won’t be sitting down at those!!
So have a great summer, and I’ll keep you posted on what I am up to!  See you in the Fall….. YAY!!!!!

Events and Stuff…..

Sewing SuppliesLast year I got involved in the festivals a little late in the year, but I was accepted into several as a late entry, and we were SOOOOooo successful at each event we participated in.  We had fun, and everyone loved what I was creating.  I enjoyed sharing the process of what I do with those that asked.  I am working on doing a video (can’t find my camera cord), and I would also love to teach some classes.  All that is in the works.  Meanwhile, I have been so busy scurrying around buying up the sweaters, and other fun materials to keep me busy creating throughout the summer, so I can be super-prepared for the Fall events.  I did sign up for a few summer events, Fairport Canal Days, The Corn Hill Festival, and Hammonsport Festival of Crafts.  You can find the dates, and more info on my events page www.kreationality.com/festivals-and-stores .  The best time for me to participate in events is the Fall since I create mostly wool, and wool blend pieces.  Some of the festivals I am applying to are Greentopia, Naples Grape Festival, The Purple Painted Lady, Cohocton Fall Foliage, Letchworth Art Festival, Memorial Art Gallery Fine Arts, Rochester Museum Science Center, Spencerport Lions Craft Show, and, of course, The Holidays at the Market!!  I am waiting for acceptance on a few of these events. The Summer events will be different, and I’m not sure how my pieces will go over in the middle of summer, but I have lots of unique pieces other than clothing.  I have been creating the pillows, and I just purchased more upholstery remnant fabric from Gunlocke!  OMG, I love going in there, and choosing fabrics.  I have been embellishing the totes with pockets, and some beaded trim, and buttons.  These are heavy-duty totes that will last forever with this upholstery fabric.  I also create wall art from the wool sweaters.  A unique process of sewing the materials, and pulling over a canvas.  Not everyone has one of THESE pieces of art!!!
I am excited to say that I have recently re-worked my website, and business logo.  A talented designer, Alison Schantz, designed my new business card, and website banner using one of the photos from the December 2, 2012 Democrat & Chronicle article http://www.democratandchronicle.com/article/20121130/LIVING/311300028  Alison did an amazing job creating a fresh, new look for Kreationality that I love!  I also changed what I use for the shopping cart on the website.  I like the look of it much better, and it is easier for me to add items to the website.  The SHOP page is “under construction” right now, but will be functioning soon!
I would like to give “thanks” to the Rochester Artisans Yahoo Groups page where I find some great information, and have met some knowledgeable, and interesting folks.  Join here, if so desired.  http://groups.yahoo.com/group/RochesterArtisans/
I look forward to seeing you at the next event: Fairport Canal Days, June 1&2.  If you see something you like on my website www.kreationality.com or Facebook page www.facebook.com/kreationality, please email me for info/purchase at info@Kreationality.com
Happy Spring!!
Karen

Events and Totes

At the marketI have been slacking on the blogs while I learn all kinds of other fun stuff. I have been researching different ways on how to sell my pieces from my website, and I’m playing with new ideas of upcycled clothing for summer festivals that I have signed up for, and have been accepted to (yikes). I am participating in the Fairport Canal Days in June, and have applied to Corn Hill in July. I have been creating some totes with upholstery remnant material I came across. I learned this pattern from The Crafting Social where I took a class.  The totes are very sturdy, and reversible.  The colors are very nice, and so far everyone loves them.
Another thing I am working to do is to create a short video showing people how I get that fancy stitch on my clothing. I have had several people ask me, and “showing” is the best way to explain. I will be working on that soon!
I continue to create arm warmers for the 2013 events that will start in September.  I need hundreds of them, and I’m getting there.
I continue to watch for events to apply to. I am waiting to see if I am accepted to Letchworth Arts &Crafts Sale, and Clothesline.  I have been accepted to Greentopia, Naples Grape Festival, and The Purple Painted Lady. I also expect to return to Rochester Museum and Science Holiday Bazaar, and the Holidays at the Rochester Public Market. I love doing the events, and look forward to them.
